MD IO makes use of ink traps, a generous x-height, and unique constructions to improve the visual distinction between glyphs. While these features are designed to be purely functional at small sizes, at larger ones they become stylistic elements in their own right — though MD IO may have its roots in code, it’s grown into a much more versatile design.
