Girlo SP is a display typeface in a modern style with an unusual shape of characters, inspired by the Nima fonts from ESH Gruppa and Archive Antique from Archive Type.

In the Girlo SP font, it was important to get creative with the shape of each glyph, while remaining within the ornate and fluid image with the stylistic elements of the Archive Antique font, which I found in the book “Don Girls” of 1888. From this the naming was born - Girlo from the word “girlo”, with an emphasis on 1 syllable and a soft g.

Girlo in the southern dialect of Russian and in the Ukrainian languages refers to shallow channels at the very end of the river mouth when it flows into the sea.
