"23:59-贰拾叁点伍拾玖" is a free and open-source experimental decorative font that created based on the thoughts about "time" and English language creation. The font has a variable weight function that allows you to choose a weight between 100-300, making it suitable for various applications. It includes 26 uppercase letters, 26 lowercase letters (simplified based on uppercase letters), 42 punctuation marks, and 20 ligatures.
"23:59-贰拾叁点伍拾玖" is not recommended for use in body text design but is recommended for stylized headlines, layout decoration, and texture decoration. The font's design is inspired by an hourglass and pointer, with the pointer's directional aspect preserved while the font's shape emphasizes the strong contrast between the hourglass's wide and narrow parts. I sacrificed some of the text's legibility to make it more symbolic. The font's shapes are primarily composed of straight lines and sharp angles, with rounded corners added to the sharp angles to weaken the attack and enhance inclusivity. Sharp, strong, lively, and mysterious are the main qualities of "23:59," making it ideal for sci-fi, modern, futuristic, and trendy film and game visual designs.
"Time" connects the past, present, and future, and people perceive time differently in different stages of their lives, causing various emotions and feelings depending on what happens and who they encounter. As time passes, I begin to miss the impact that everything in the world has had on me, and I always recall the surging emotions that the summer brought me. I also begin to search for various feelings I had before. However, memories will eventually be forgotten, so I hope to use design to commemorate the feelings that I still want to search for but cannot find.
"23:59" is the last minute of the day before it resets in one minute. I hope to convey the various emotions and meanings that "time" has for people through "23:59" and inspire people to think about and establish a connection with "time." The font's packaging is a vertical timeline, with ligatures designed according to some time units, including seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, quarters, years, decades, centuries, millennia, galactic years, and the seasons of spring, summer, fall, and winter, as well as time and space. The transition of the seasons is the strongest feeling of the flow of time, and the physical sensations in different seasons affect people's emotional states, worth our exploration and contemplation.
